Overall I am satisfied with the outcome of my front cover. The audience i think it appeals to from judging the front cover it would mostly be a teenage female. I think this because of the feminine vibrant colours and the font used.

The topics covered on the front cover I feel this backs up my theory that this issue of my magazine would appeal to the female gender. "best 6th form fashion buys" "top ten 5 minute hair do's".

The background photo I chose was originally a normal black and white photograph but I thought it would be more appropriate to give the background a more art feel to the magazine and give it a unique edge.

Things I could of improved on would probably be to put some extra colours into it to maybe try and make the magazine appeal to a broader audience.

Things I think I have done well is that I have Incorporated the background and the fonts and colours very well.

Favourite Photos Taken

These photos are the photos I shortlisted down to 2. After all the editing and learning techniques on photoshop I soon made my final decision on which one looked more effective.

Who is the Audience of this Media text?

The media caters for a broad range of audiences. Now magazine in my opinion is targeted at a younger audience as the person who the article is featured around is a youth himself at only 21 years of age.

The language used in the text proves to me very simple and basic which makes it suitable for the youth and the working class (stereotypically not as well educated) to read.

Fonts

This is the font I'm planning on using for my magazine front cover. The purpose for me choosing this specific font is because my magazine is revolved around fashion around the school. In my opinion this font is very feminine and glamorous and appropriate for the theme of the magazine. I found this font on the globally used website called da font which i found was full of very interesting and individual fonts.

Defining a Media Text

I chose a page out of the magazine called 'Now' and analysed it to examine what I think the target audience of the magazine is.

Now magazine typically caters for middle class women interested in the gossip and happenings of the media world today.

I could define and tell what the target audience is from most obviously the layout chosen. The layout is very upbeat and vibrant. Most importantly i could tell from the language used. The language used is Standard English with slight use of slang and abbreviations, none of the language used are very formal or difficult to understand in any way.

Also all the story's that are typically features in the magazine including the stories I have chosen to feature are stereotypically new found fame discovered by reality TV or one hit wonders. Not cherished stars that have been on the scene for 15/20 years, featured in Hollywood films and fashion wonders. A magazine like vogue wouldn't use the same celebrity's as their stories as now.

My First AS Media Lesson

In our first lesson of AS Media 3 fellow students and myself got together and began to compare and analyse two very different magazines. By comparing the woman's designer fashion magazine 'Instyle' with the high street gossip magazine 'Best' we soon discovered loads of similarities and differences between the two different publications. By studying the magazines I began to learn a wide range of vocabulary and device meanings. It was a great way to start my AS Media Course!

As part of the lesson I also learnt the difference between 'conventions and codes'. From my understanding conventions and codes are practically the same thing. For example the 'Code' is the differences the magazine shares and 'Conventions' is the similarities they share.
